A VPS is useful when your desktop trading terminal needs to keep running while your own computer is off or disconnected. Before paying for one, decide what you need to keep running: an Expert Advisor, a chart-based alert, or another supported desktop tool. Occasional manual trading from a phone does not automatically require a VPS.

Is XM VPS free, and what does the paid option cost?

The English XM Global Help Center, checked on 13 September 2026, lists the following conditions for its MT4 and MT5 VPS service. This is the displayed Global offer, not the separate XMTrading Japan service or a promise that every XM company offers identical terms.

Here, round-turn volume counts the quantity opened and then closed. Four fully closed trades of 0.50 Standard lots total 2 Standard round lots. That arithmetic does not tell you whether a particular instrument or trade qualifies under the subscription terms. Ask XM to resolve that before relying on a fee waiver.

At an unchanged USD 25 monthly rate, twelve paid months total USD 300, before any applicable conversion cost. Treat that as an operating expense. Extra trades made only to qualify for free hosting bring spreads, possible commissions and market exposure; the fee saving does not make those trades worthwhile.

What a VPS does for MT4 and MT5

Think of a conventional VPS as a remote computer hosting your desktop terminal. Your own device connects to that computer so you can manage the platform. Hosting can separate terminal operation from your local power and internet connection, but it does not improve a strategy’s signals or remove broker, server and market risks.

Choose the platform your software needs. Our XM MT4 setup guide and XM MT5 setup guide cover the download, account and server distinctions. A VPS does not convert an MT4 indicator into an MT5 indicator.

Also distinguish this broker service from MetaTrader’s separately documented built-in virtual hosting. Do not follow a different hosting product’s migration or billing instructions simply because both use the term VPS.

How to start and connect, step by step

1. Identify the account and platform. Use the XM website you normally reach for your account. Confirm the company and whether your tools require desktop MT4 or MT5.
2. Check the VPS offer inside the verified account route. Read the balance, activity and billing terms offered to that account. The public Global figures above are a comparison point; resolve a different quote before accepting it.
3. Complete the provider’s subscription process. Follow the controls presented in your account. The public FAQ does not show the full application form, so the exact button names and approval steps are not reproduced here.
4. Find the welcome email. XM’s connection answer directs subscribers to that email for their connection instructions. Keep the connection address and credentials private.
5. Connect using those instructions. The correct address, login and remote-access method come from the welcome information, not a generic example copied from another account.
6. Check the terminal before enabling a strategy. Verify the trading-account number, server, platform, symbol and intended chart settings. Start with observation or a suitable demo workflow while you establish that your files behave as intended.
7. Review automation permissions and monitoring. In MT5, permission can be controlled at both terminal and EA level. Check both, and inspect the terminal’s logs when a program does not behave as expected. Do not assume that seeing the desktop means an EA is trading.
8. Avoid running an unintended second copy. Before leaving a strategy on the hosted terminal, check whether the same strategy remains active on another device. Keep a way to monitor positions and reach support if the remote session fails.

How to cancel and check the next charge

The Global Help Center’s cancellation answer provides a link to complete the cancellation process. Reach it through the Market Intelligence and Education help category, open How do I cancel my VPS?, and follow the account route shown there.

1. Check which terminal and programs depend on the hosting before you cancel.
2. Save copies of your files, settings and useful logs outside the VPS. Open the copies to check that you can actually use them.
3. Move any monitoring or strategy operation you intend to retain to an appropriate alternative, and verify it there.
4. Complete the official cancellation process and retain its confirmation.
5. Check the effective end date and whether another monthly charge is due. The public answer does not specify a refund or prorating rule, so do not assume one.

Closing your remote-access window is not the same task as cancelling a subscription. If you are uncertain about either the running terminal or the billing status, ask the provider to clarify the two separately.

Is the VPS worth the cost for your setup?

Compare the hosting bill with the problem it solves. If you need a dependable place for a desktop tool to run, include the VPS in your operating budget alongside the account’s spreads, commissions and overnight costs. If you do not need continuous desktop operation, start with the normal platform instead of adding a recurring service.

Ask for the details that the public FAQ does not establish: current hardware, location, capacity, backups, support coverage and service commitments. We have not measured uptime, latency or order execution and do not rank this service against an independently tested VPS provider.

XM VPS questions

Does a USD 500 balance make XM VPS free?

Not by itself. The Global FAQ also requires at least 2 Standard round lots or 200 Micro round lots per month. Both the balance and activity tests apply, subject to the terms offered to your account.

What does XM VPS cost if I do not qualify?

The English Global FAQ checked on 13 September 2026 lists USD 25 per month, deducted on the first day of each calendar month. Confirm the current subscription terms before accepting a charge.

Can I use the service with MT4 and MT5?

The current Global FAQ names both platforms. Use software designed for the chosen desktop platform; hosting does not make MT4 and MT5 files interchangeable.
